Answers
1. What are OSA sleep disorders?
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is one of the most common sleep disorders, in which the patient's breathing stops and restarts recurrently during slumber due to an obstacle blocking the airway.
2. What are the risks of OSA?
Sleep disorders such as OSA, when left untreated, might lead to further health complications including: high blood pressure, Diabetes, strokes, heart attacks, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) in children, Preeclampsia in pregnant women and others.
3. I have been diagnosed with OSA, what should I do?
Many sleep disorders and OSA in particular, may lead to further health problems and an overall decrease in the quality of life, therefore sleep disorders should not be taken lightly and be treated efficiently once diagnosed.
At present, the most commonly and effectively used treatment for OSA is Continuous Positive Air Pressure therapy (CPAP equipment and CPAP accessories).
4. What is the Curasa CPAP treatment?
This therapy is a method of supplying an uninterrupted air stream that works like a "pneumatic splint ", keeping the patients airway open, providing sleep disorders patients with normal breathing during slumber and therefore a normal, uninterrupted slumber.
Continuous Positive Air Pressure therapy is achieved by using CPAP equipment, including a CPAP machine connected to CPAP accessories (full face or nasal mask and air tubing).
5. How does a CPAP Machine work?
A CPAP machine a respiratory ventilator that supplies a steady air stream at a prescribed pressure. The recommended air pressure is prescribed by a physician after an overnight examination in a sleep disorders laboratory.
The Curasa CPAP product line offers a pressure range of 2 to 20 cm of water.
6. What does a complete CPAP equipment set consists of?
A complete set consists of a CPAP machine, air tubing, full face or nasal mask and filters.
To obtain optimized comfort of use and avoid possible side affects of dryness, it is highly recommended to integrate a heated humidifier as well.
7. What does the CPAP machine come with?
When ordering the Curasa CPAP set you receive the CPAP machine, air tube, 1 filter and a carry bag.
Please note that the full face / nasal mask are not included and must be purchased additionally.
8. Are both BestFit masks compatible with the different Curasa CPAP gear?
Yes, both BestFit full face and nasal mask can be used with any of the devices in our product line.
9. What is a nasal mask?
CPAP accessories include a full face or a nasal mask through which the air pressure flows into the patient's airway.
A nasal mask is attached to the area around the nose and connects to straps that hold it steadily in place.
10. What are the benefits of the humidifier in the Curasa CPAP therapy?
The constant air pressure of the therapy sometimes causes irritations in the patient's air passages by drying them. Those irritations might cause bleeding, excess congestion, mucous, sneezing or swelling and even infections.
A simple way to avoid these complications is by humidification (adding moisture to the air flow), which can be easily done by integrating the heated humidifier to the CPAP accessories purchased.
11. What are the air tubes/hoses?
The air tubes/hoses are CPAP accessories that connect to the airflow generator and deliver the air stream to the head gear and onto the patient's airway.
12. Does all CPAP equipment require filters?
Yes, usually the filters are a washable foamed material. The filters are located at the back of the device, at the air intake.
13. What maintenance does the CPAP equipment require?
The only maintenance needed is cleaning and changing filters, which are located at the back of the device, in order to keep the internal parts from accumulating dust.
14. How often should I replace my CPAP accessories?
CPAP accessories are medical supplies and therefore should be replaced periodically to maintain a high level of sanitation and performance.
It is recommended to replace the headgear every 6 months.
15. Can I use the device when traveling?
Yes. With an automatic altitude adjustment feature and a compact design, all of the products in this line are an ideal solution for patients while traveling.
